Violence Erupts in Ondo’s Ofosun Village, Sparks Panic Ahead of 2024 Election

Ondo Governorship Election: 18 Political Parties Sign Peace Accord

Turbulent Morning in Ofosun Village as Gunfire Erupts

The community of Ofosun, situated on the border of Ondo and Edo states, was gripped with fear and uncertainty as gunshots rang out through the morning hours. According to eyewitnesses, unknown individuals fired shots into the air, sending residents scrambling for cover.

Residents of Ofosun, who declined to be named, recounted the chaotic scene, describing how they remained indoors, fearing stray bullets. It remains unclear what sparked the incident, but the incident was widely reported, causing alarm throughout the area.

In a surprising turn of events, Deputy Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Festus Akingbaso, spoke out about alleged infiltration of villages in Idanre Local Government Area by hoodlums. Akingbaso voiced concerns that these individuals were brought in by the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Sharing his concerns, Akingbaso alleged that he had received information that numerous villages, including Ofosun, Omifunfun, and Allah, were occupied by suspected thugs. He also reported receiving reports of an incident where suspected thugs broke into a party member’s home, preventing them from casting their vote.

Akingbaso, who reported the matter to the police and DSS, expressed disappointment that these agencies had not taken further action to address the concerns.

The Ondo APC spokesperson, Steve Otaloro, responded to the allegations, denying any involvement by the party and calling for a thorough investigation into the matter. Otaloro expressed skepticism about Akingbaso’s claims, noting that the PDP had previously made similar allegations at a press conference.

Otaloro questioned why Akingbaso had not personally observed the alleged incidents and challenged the validity of his accusations. He emphasized that his party was committed to a peaceful election and urged against creating unnecessary tension.

As tensions continue to simmer, authorities are left to investigate and address the concerns raised about the election. The Ofosun incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining peace and order during the electoral process.
