The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, the youth arm of the Igbo umbrella group, has accused Atiku Abubakar of resorting to unsavory tactics to gain the presidency.
In response to a social media post, the group’s National President, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, criticized Atiku for his alleged desperation to hold the highest office in the land.
Atiku had earlier shared a photo of himself with a group he called “Ohanaze Ndibo Youth Worldwide,” claiming they paid him a visit in Abuja. The group’s authenticity was brought into question by Nnabuike, who deemed the visit a shameless attempt to garner support.
Atiku is clearly willing to go to great lengths to achieve his ambition, even if it means fabricating support,” Nnabuike said, describing the move as underhanded.
The youth leader stressed that the photograph posted by Atiku was an insult to the sensibilities of the Igbo people.
Atiku’s move is a desperate attempt to tarnish the reputation of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo youths,” Nnabuike said.
He could have just as easily used any other name to describe his fictional guests, but instead, he chose to associate himself with the revered Ohanaeze Ndigbo youths. This is the height of desperation.
Okwu also warned against dealing with faceless groups claiming to represent the Ohanaeze youth, stating that they do not represent the genuine interests of the Igbo people.
Atiku’s bid to become president has reduced him to patronizing impostors and beggars,” Nnabuike said. Other Nigerians should not fall victim to these merchants of manipulation.
Furthermore, the youth leader emphasized that Atiku’s ambition is morally wrong, as it could lead to the perpetuation of an unfair system. He called for unity, equity, and a clear rotation of power in Nigeria.
Nnabuike noted that the current zoning arrangement in the country is paramount, and any attempt to subvert it would be unjust and immoral.
The next presidential election in 2027 will see the power shift to the North, and by 2031, it will do so again. We should not condone this power grab,” he said.
