Ondo Governorship Election: APC’s Lucky Ayedatiwa Takes Early Lead, Wins in 13 LGAs
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the results of 13 local government areas in the Ondo State governorship election, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Lucky Ayedatiwa, taking an early lead.
The collation exercise, led by Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi State, began at 12:10 a.m. on Sunday and is expected to resume by 5 a.m. when the results of the remaining five local government areas are released.
Ayedatiwa’s victories include Idanre Local Government, the home base of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship running mate, Mr. Festus Akingbaso, marking a significant political upset.
In several local government areas, the APC candidate emerged victorious, including Ifedore, Ondo East, IleOluji/OkeIgbo, Idanre, Irele, Akoko South West, Owo, Ondo West, Akoko South East, Akoko North West, Ose, Akure South, and Akoko North East.
However, in Idanre Local Government Area, a PDP agent raised concerns about irregularities, alleging that there was no voting in Ofosun Oniseri and a case of ballot snatching at Alade. The agent requested that the votes from the ward be expunged from the LG’s results.
The results show that Ayedatiwa’s APC secured significant victories in many local government areas, with notable wins including 14,157 votes in Ifedore, 8,163 votes in Ondo East, 16,600 votes in IleOluji/OkeIgbo, and 29,700 votes in Akoko South West.
The outcome of the election is expected to be a closely watched development in the political landscape of Ondo State, with many eyes on the final results and the implications for the state’s political future.
