Violent Attack Kills Five, Including a Soldier, in Benue State
A recent attack in the North Bank suburb of Makurdi, Benue State, has left five people dead, including a soldier, in what’s believed to be the result of cult-related violence. The incident occurred on a Friday night, according to reports obtained by Naijawebinfo.
North Bank has been a hotbed of violence in recent weeks, with clashes between rival cult factions causing numerous casualties and property damage. However, the latest attack, which took place on a Friday night, was unusual in that two young men who were not affiliated with any cult were killed alongside the soldier.
An eyewitness who chose to remain anonymous confirmed that the two victims were uninvolved in the ongoing cult wars and were unfortunate bystanders who fell prey to the cultists’ violence.
Nura Umar, the chairman of the Operation Shara vigilante group in North Bank, echoed the eyewitness account, reporting that four people, including a soldier, were killed in separate incidents on both Thursday and Friday nights.
Speaking to newsmen, Umar revealed that on Friday night, cultists wreaked havoc in the BIPC area, claiming the lives of a soldier and two innocent young boys. He added that none of the boys were known to be cult members.
Unfortunately, the violence didn’t stop there. On the previous night, a suspected cultist who was at home was killed in what appears to be a similar attack.
The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the outbreak of cult-related violence in North Bank and has dispatched operatives to the area.
In an interview with Daily Post, the police spokesperson, Catherine Anene, acknowledged that cult activities were indeed on the rise in North Bank, but clarified that her information only revealed one young civilian killed. She reaffirmed that efforts are underway to bring the situation under control.
