Edo Queens Become Second Nigeria’s Club To Reach CAF Women’s Champions League Semis

Edo Queens, the reigning champions of the Nigeria Women Football League, have taken a major step towards the CAF Women’s Champions League title after defeating Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa with a score of 2-1 on Saturday.

The team, led by Coach Moses Aduku, topped Group B with seven points from three matches, earning them a spot in the semi-finals. They will face TP Mazembe from the Democratic Republic of Congo, while hosts AS FAR will take on Egyptian side FC Masar in the other semi-final match.

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick, has congratulated Edo Queens on their impressive performance against Mamelodi Sundowns, praising their resilience and ambition. In a statement published on November 17, he encouraged the team to seize the opportunity to win the CAF Women’s Champions League title.

Gusau believes that Edo Queens’ determination to reach the semi-finals of the competition will serve as strong motivation to go further in the tournament. He also extended his congratulations to the Edo State Government and all those who have supported the team in their journey.

Edo Queens, who claimed the Nigerian title for the first time last season, have already demonstrated their excellence by winning the WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament in Cote d’Ivoire. They will now face TP Mazembe in the first semi-final on Tuesday at 4:00 PM Morocco time, followed by the clash between AS FAR and Masar three hours later.
