New Nigeria Peoples Party presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has expressed concerns over what he sees as an attempt by Lagos State to dominate other regions, particularly Kano, due to its favored status with the central government.
Kwankwaso’s comments are part of a broader concern about the perceived regional imbalance in governance and traditional institutions under the current administration.
In a speech at the convocation ceremony of Skyline University in Kano, Kwankwaso accused Lagos State of meddling in Kano’s internal affairs, including the selection of its emir.
He stated that Lagos State is trying to exert control over Kano, saying, “Today, it’s clear that there are significant efforts to colonize this part of the country from the Lagos axis. They won’t even let us choose our own emir; instead, they want to impose their own on Kano.”
Kwankwaso went on to say, “Lagos feels like they’re the only Nigeria, interfering in other states’ affairs. We won’t tolerate such actions here in Kano.”
The comments reflect deep-seated concerns about the perceived regional imbalance in governance and traditional institutions, particularly under the current administration.
Many believe that the administration has given more attention to Lagos State, with trillions of naira projects being awarded to the state to the detriment of other states.
