The All Progressives Congress (APC) made a resounding sweep of all 20 chairmanship seats in Ogun State’s local government election, held on Saturday.
According to reports, a total of 613,156 votes were cast across the 20 local government areas, with the APC emerging victorious in all of them.
The party also secured councillorship seats in all 236 wards across the state, solidifying its dominance in the election.
The results were announced by the Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), Babatunde Osibodu, at the commission’s headquarters in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.
However, the chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Ogun State, Biodun Jagun, has disputed the election results, describing the entire exercise as a sham.
Jagun has called for the cancellation of the election and threatened to challenge the outcome in court, citing irregularities and a lack of transparency.
“The election was a farce,” Jagun said. “In most polling units, OGSIEC officials were nowhere to be found, and there were no election materials. In the few areas where materials were delivered, they were incomplete and arrived late. The people of Ogun State are well aware that this was not a genuine election.”
Jagun also expressed his party’s rejection of the declared results, stating that they will not recognize the outcome unless the election is conducted fairly and in accordance with the electoral guidelines of Ogun State. If the commission fails to take corrective action, the LP will consider legal action to challenge the results.
