Ondo Governorship Election: PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate Expresses Concern Over Thug Influx

Festus Akingbaso, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate in Ondo State, has raised concerns over the growing presence of thugs in the Idanre Local Government Area ahead of the governorship election.

After casting his vote at Polling Unit 005, Oke Imikan, Akingbaso spoke to journalists about his observations, praising the voter turnout and security arrangements, but expressing concern about the impact of thugs on the election.

Akingbaso stated, “I’m pleased with the turnout and the peaceful atmosphere at the polling units, but the influx of thugs in Idanre is worrying. We need to ensure the safety of voters and electoral officials and protect the integrity of the election.”

Residents in the area have also expressed concerns about the growing presence of thugs, calling on authorities to take prompt action to prevent disruptions. Security personnel are on high alert, with reinforcements deployed to maintain peace in the area.

As the election continues across Ondo State, stakeholders emphasize the importance of a credible and peaceful poll.

Akingbaso commended the electoral process, saying, “The turnout of voters is impressive, and the security situation is also manageable. I commend INEC for doing a good job so far.” He also advised voters to wait patiently until the final results are announced.

Regarding the alleged influx of party thugs, Akingbaso stated that information received indicated that many villages in the area were occupied by APC supporters, including Ofosun, Omifunfun, and Allah. He claimed that there were reports of suspected thugs being brought into the area from Friday, and that the security agencies had been notified, including the DPO and DSS, but no action had been taken.
