Vice President Shettima Congratulates Sanusi on Kano Emirate Appointment

Reactions As Vice President, Shettima Recognises Sanusi As 16th Emir Of Kano

Vice President Kashim Shettima’s recent recognition of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano has sparked a flurry of reactions on social media.

In a series of posts on his official Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) accounts, Shettima referred to Sanusi as the 16th Emir, a move that many online users interpreted as an endorsement of Sanusi’s legitimacy to the throne.

The recognition comes amid ongoing legal disputes over the Kano Emirate, with the state grappling with two claimants to the revered position – Sanusi and Aminu Ado Bayero, who is recognized as the 15th Emir.

In a post, Shettima wrote about attending the wedding of the daughter of former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso. The ceremony took place at the palace of the 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, and was conducted by the Chief Imam of Kano, Prof. Sani Zahraddeen.

However, after some online users reacted to the post, the third paragraph was later edited to remove the Emir’s name.

The edited post now reads: “The wedding took place at the Kano Emir’s palace, and was conducted by the Chief Imam of Kano, Prof. Sani Zahraddeen.”

Here are some reactions from social media users:
