CAF Awards: Victor Boniface Rates Himself Over Ademola Lookman

Nigeria’s Victor Boniface Expresses Disappointment Over CAF Men’s Player Award Snub

Nigerian footballer Victor Boniface, who plays as a striker for the Super Eagles, has spoken out about his shock and disappointment at not being nominated for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player award.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently announced a shortlist of 10 nominees, which included several of Boniface’s international teammates, including Ademola Lookman and William Troost-Ekong.

Despite an impressive season with Bayer Leverkusen, where he played a key role in the club’s first-ever Bundesliga title and DFB Pokal win, Boniface was surprisingly omitted from the nominee list.

In an interview with BBC’s Oluwashina Okeleji, Boniface shared his thoughts on the situation, saying, “It’s certainly disappointing not to be recognized in the shortlist. Looking back at my performances last season, I believe I had a strong case for consideration, so it’s hard not to feel let down. However, I try not to dwell on it too much.”

When asked about who he thought deserved the award, Boniface had no hesitation in praising his teammate Lookman.

“If I had to choose the winner, it would undoubtedly be Lookman, 100 per cent,” he stated. “But if I were given the chance to select the nominees myself, I would certainly include my name among them.”
