Davido Makes Good on His Birthday Promise: ₦300 Million Pledged to Nigerian Orphanages
Riding high on the release of his latest single ‘Awuke’, Nigerian superstar Davido has announced that his birthday this year will be marked by a donation of ₦300 million to orphanages across the country through his foundation, the Davido Adeleke Foundation.
In a social media post, Davido wrote: “This year, we’re donating to orphanages and a charity that helps young people stay away from drug abuse and addiction. This year, we’re giving ₦300 million. Details to follow soon.”
Established in 2022, the Davido Adeleke Foundation was set up to make a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable children in Nigeria. The foundation’s efforts have already seen hundreds of orphanages benefit from generous donations, with thousands of children’s lives significantly improved as a result.
Last year, the foundation donated over ₦200 million to orphanages, helping an impressive 13,818 children. Davido has promised to continue his charitable work, with more donations planned for 2024.
When asked about the motivation behind his foundation, Davido explained: “I founded the DAF with a strong desire and passion to continually assist and create a proper framework for the ongoing charitable works to benefit the good people of Nigeria.” He added: “Through this foundation, we have raised millions of naira and dispersed much-needed funds to hundreds of orphanages, significantly improving the lives of countless children.”
This marks the third year in a row that Davido has celebrated his birthday by donating to orphanages. He started the tradition in 2021, posting his bank account details on social media and asking friends to gift him instead of traditional birthday presents. He received a total of ₦200 million, which was subsequently donated to orphanages across the country.
