Peoples Democratic Party’s Governorship Candidate, Ladi Adebutu, Detained by DSS

The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Publicity Secretary for Ogun State, Kayode Adebayo, has announced that the party’s candidate for the 2023 governorship election, Ladi Adebutu, has been taken into custody by the Department of State Services (DSS). This development was confirmed through a statement released on Monday from Abeokuta.

Adebayo disclosed that Adebutu was invited by the DSS for questioning in connection with disturbances that occurred during the local government elections held on November 16, 2024.

In a statement to party members, Adebayo emphasized that Adebutu has been detained by the DSS on yet undisclosed charges. He assured party members and supporters that Adebutu remains optimistic and has called for calm amidst the situation.

Adebayo encouraged party members to remain tranquil, stating that Adebutu believes this challenge is a necessary sacrifice for the advancement of democracy.

As of 10:00 pm on Monday, efforts to secure Adebutu’s release, including requests for bail on personal recognition or with a surety, had been unsuccessful. However, his legal team has been informed and is expected to take further action on Tuesday morning.

The PDP appealed to its members and the general public to remain peaceful and patient until the situation is resolved.
