Kano: NNPP’s Relevance Fades as Deputy Senate President Warns

NNPP Becoming Irrelevant In Kano – Deputy Senate President

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has announced that the recent wave of defections from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State is a clear indication of the political direction for the 2027 elections.

In a recent meeting, Senator Jibrin welcomed a group of NNPP members from the ward of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the party’s former presidential candidate and national leader, as well as Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The defectors, led by Yahaya Sa’idu Kwankwaso, a former councillor from Kwankwaso Ward in Madobi Local Government, and Hon. Abdulhamid Ahmad Diso, a former deputy speaker of Gwale LGA, alongside Hon. Shu’aibu Isa Kubaraci and their supporters, cited Senator Jibrin’s development achievements in Kano State as their primary motivation for joining the APC.

In addition, a prominent figure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Garba Alhassan Dawaki, led the defection of former councillors and PDP members from Dawakin Kudu LGA to the APC.

According to Senator Jibrin’s media adviser, Ismail Mudashir, the defectors were attracted to the APC due to the Senator’s commitment to development in Kano State.

During a meeting with the new members, Senator Jibrin emphasized that the APC is an inclusive platform where everyone has an equal chance to thrive and grow. He also pledged to work with them to accelerate the development of Kano State and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda to drive progress and prosperity nationwide.

“These mass defections from NNPP to APC signal a clear direction for 2027,” Senator Jibrin said.

He also forecasted that the NNPP would soon lose its relevance in Kano North and that the APC would soon take over the remnants of the NNPP in Kano South, leaving the party limited to a few streets in Kano Central.
