Niger Delta Development Commission Sounds Alarm Over Hacked Chairman’s Social Media Accounts
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has issued a warning after its board chairman, Chiedu Ebie, fell victim to a sophisticated cybercrime operation. The scammers hacked into the chairman’s Facebook and Instagram accounts, using them to fraudulently solicit money from unsuspecting individuals.
In a statement released in Port Harcourt, the NDDC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, strongly condemned the criminal activities of the impostors. She emphasized that the fraudsters were using the commission’s name and logo to disseminate fraudulent business proposals.
The statement revealed that the hackers had cloned the chairman’s Facebook account and compromised his Instagram account, exploiting these platforms to defraud people. The impersonators were also using the NDDC’s name and logo to send out dubious business proposals.
The commission urged the public to exercise extreme caution and avoid engaging with these fraudulent schemes. Efforts are underway to regain control of the compromised accounts, and the public is advised not to transact with these faceless and dubious scammers.
The NDDC emphasized that it would not be held liable for any losses or damages resulting from such transactions. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious or fraudulent online activities to the appropriate authorities for prompt action.
The commission also recommended that individuals with legitimate dealings verify all information through the NDDC’s official website and authenticated social media channels. Any suspicious or fraudulent online activities should be reported to the relevant authorities for prompt action.
