Slight Relief for Nigerian Households as Cooking Gas Price Drops
A recent survey conducted by a Naijawebinfo correspondent found that the average price of cooking gas has decreased, easing the financial burden on Nigerian families. The current rate for 1kg of cooking gas is around ₦1,350, with prices varying depending on location and cylinder size.
Though the price drop is encouraging, many Nigerians remain concerned about the affordability of cooking gas and are advocating for further reductions.
In light of the fluctuating gas prices, experts emphasize the importance of adopting habits that conserve cooking gas: first and foremost, cooking with lids on can improve efficiency by retaining heat. This simple trick can shorten cooking times and reduce the amount of gas used.
Keeping flames low or medium wherever possible is another effective technique, as high flames can waste gas without significantly impacting cooking time. Regular cleaning and maintenance of burners and regulators can also promote efficiency.
Preparation is key: having all ingredients ready to go before cooking helps minimize gas usage. Batch cooking is another strategy – preparing meals in larger quantities reduces the need for repeated gas use.
Using energy-efficient cookware, such as pots and pans with flat bottoms and tight-fitting lids, can also significantly reduce gas consumption.
