Osun NNPP Chairman Questions APC’s Victory in Ondo, Warns Against Electoral Intimidation
Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, the Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Osun State, has expressed skepticism about the All Progressives Congress (APC) winning the 2024 Ondo State governorship election fairly.
In a statement released on Monday, Odeyemi cautioned APC and its National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, against getting too comfortable with their victory in Ondo. He pointed out that Osun is not Ondo and that the two states have distinct political landscapes.
Odeyemi took issue with Ganduje’s statement, in which he declared that the APC’s next target is to take over Osun, Oyo, and the entire southwest region in future elections. The NNPP Chairman described Ganduje’s remarks as reckless and unbecoming of an elder statesman, especially given the current economic hardships faced by Nigerians under the APC-led government.
Odeyemi alleged that the APC engaged in vote-buying tactics, which he attributed to the deliberate impoverishment of the masses. He also challenged Ganduje to prove the APC’s popularity in Kano State, where the NNPP won a significant victory.
Odeyemi expressed surprise at Ganduje’s lack of communication skills, saying that it’s hard to understand why anyone would vote for the APC given the economic challenges Nigerians are facing. He warned Ganduje not to be carried away by the Ondo election results and to respect the wishes of the people.
Odeyemi emphasized that Osun residents are politically aware and would not tolerate electoral malpractice or intimidation. He urged all political stakeholders to respect the people’s wishes and allow voters to decide freely in the 2026 elections.
Odeyemi also cautioned Ganduje against turning the southwest region into a war zone, warning that spoken words carry weight and that the 2026 elections must be crisis-free in Osun.
