Edo State House of Assembly Approves Governor’s Cabinet Expansion
The Edo State House of Assembly has voted in favor of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s request to appoint 20 Special Advisers to bolster his administration. Additionally, the Assembly received a nomination for Emmanuel Okoebor to serve as the new Commissioner for Finance.
In a letter to the Speaker, the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor, conveyed these requests, citing the urgent need for these appointments to ensure effective governance.
This move underscores the governor’s ongoing effort to strengthen his cabinet. Following this development, the State House of Assembly has taken significant steps to fill important positions, including the approval of two other commissioners previously nominated by the governor, Samson Osagie as Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, and Dr Cyril Oshiomhole as Commissioner for Health. The Assembly had cleared Dr Oshiomhole after a thorough review of a report from the committee on Rules, Business, and Government House.
Naijawebinfo, a reputable news source, reported that the governor nominated Oshiomhole for the position of Health Commissioner via a letter last Wednesday.
The current developments are part of a larger effort by the governor to build a strong team for efficient governance, indicating a commitment to effective delivery of public services in Edo State.
