PDP Deputy National Youth Leader Backs Obasanjo’s Call for Electoral Reforms
Timothy Osadolor, the Deputy National Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has thrown his weight behind former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s call for electoral reforms in Nigeria.
Obasanjo had sparked controversy by demanding the removal of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, over his handling of the 2023 election. He also advocated for shorter tenures for INEC officials and a more rigorous vetting process to prevent the appointment of partisan individuals.
Osadolor corroborated Obasanjo’s stance, emphasizing the need for an overhaul of the electoral system in Nigeria. He argued that Yakubu and other INEC officials should apologize to Nigerians for failing to meet their expectations at the polls.
Osadolor also called on anti-corruption agencies to investigate INEC staff for alleged mismanagement of resources. He urged the INEC boss to take Obasanjo’s admonition seriously, stating that a more honourable society would expect the chairman to resign and apologize to Nigerians for his mistakes.
Osadolor’s comments echoed Obasanjo’s sentiments, reflecting the demands of Nigerians who are dissatisfied with the current state of the electoral system. He urged the INEC chairman to take responsibility for his actions and work towards creating a more credible and fair electoral process.
