Tinubu’s Wike Pick May Haunt His Success as PDP Loses Its Foothold

Tinubu Is PDP’s Problem, He Had No Business Appointing Wike Into His Cabinet – Showumi

A leading member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Showunmi, has pinpointed President Bola Tinubu as the primary source of trouble for the main opposition party.

Naijawebinfo has learned that Showunmi, a former governorship candidate in Ogun State, made these comments during a recent interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today program.

In the interview, Showunmi emphasized that Tinubu’s actions have had far-reaching consequences for the PDP. Specifically, he took issue with the president’s decision to appoint Nyesom Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) without consulting the party.

When asked about the controversy surrounding Wike’s status in the party, Showunmi made it clear that he does not see the former governor as the main problem. Instead, he believes that Tinubu’s actions have caused significant divisions within the PDP.

“People may try to say that Wike is the problem in the party, but I firmly believe that President Bola Tinubu is the real source of our troubles,” Showunmi said.

Showunmi argued that Tinubu has no business appointing PDP members to his cabinet without first consulting with the party. He added that the president’s decision to take Wike from the PDP and appoint him to his cabinet has also caused tension within the party.

In terms of the ongoing crisis within the party, Showunmi expressed confidence that the PDP will overcome its current challenges and return to its position as a leading force in Nigerian politics.

Showunmi dismissed suggestions that the party is on life support, saying that it is simply struggling to find its footing in a rapidly changing political landscape.

“We haven’t reached the point where we can say we have a new set of leaders in place,” he said. “There are still complications surrounding Wike’s status, given his role as a minister in the APC government and his continued membership in the PDP.

However, Showunmi is adamant that the party is not dead, but rather it is going through growing pains as it navigates the challenges of democracy. He emphasized that these complications will need to be managed, but he believes that the party will ultimately emerge stronger as a result.
