A lawyer named Mike Ofikwu has tragically lost his life in a shocking shooting incident in Otukpo, Benue State.

According to reports gathered by Naijawebinfo, Ofikwu was gunned down on Wednesday night at his home on Otukpa Street, Otukpo, while waiting for the gate to be opened.

An anonymous source close to the situation revealed that two armed individuals ambushed the lawyer, lying in wait before striking. “As he waited for his people to open the gate, the assailants emerged from hiding and shot him at close range,” the source said.

Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Ofikwu was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Benue State Police Command spokesperson, Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident and assured that an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those responsible. “I commiserate with his family and friends and assure them that justice will be served,” she stated in a brief message.

In a separate incident, the Nigeria Police Force has revealed the identities of the officers involved in a gun attack that occurred on Wednesday morning in Abia State.

Naijawebinfo earlier reported that unidentified gunmen ambushed and killed police officers in Ohafia Local Government Area, Abia State. The attack took place around 7:30 am.

A wireless message from the Abia State Police Command identified ASP Etet Ubokulo as the officer who lost his life in the assault, which was carried out by six assailants. Two other officers, ASP Etim Obungha and CPL Chukwuma, managed to escape.

CPL Chukwuma sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and is currently receiving treatment at the 14 Brigade Hospital. The attackers reportedly seized ASP Ubokulo’s rifle after the attack.

Although ASP Etim Obungha escaped, his whereabouts remain unknown as of the time the situation report was issued.
