Olajumoke Orisaguna, the Nigerian model who rose to fame in 2016, has finally opened up about her tumultuous marriage and subsequent disappearance from the public eye.
Recalling her unexpected rise to fame, Orisaguna’s name became synonymous with social media after she accidentally walked into a photoshoot featuring British rapper Tinie Tempah, captured by Nigerian photographer TY Bello.
In a heart-wrenching interview with City FM, Orisaguna shared the dark reality of her marriage, which was marred by domestic violence at the hands of her husband, Sunday Orisaguna.
Orisaguna revealed that the abuse began during their time in Ire, Osun State, with her mother-in-law’s mistreatment and Sunday’s alleged physical abuse taking a significant toll on her well-being.
The abuse continued even after they relocated to Lagos, where Orisaguna’s career began to flourish. Despite her newfound success, she remained silent about her struggles, fearing societal pressure and the stigma of being a single mother of two.
In the interview, Orisaguna revealed that her ex-husband worked to tarnish her reputation and that of her supporters. She recalled feeling trapped, unable to speak out due to the fear of losing her children.
Orisaguna shared a particularly painful memory, saying, “I never told anyone what was going on. I was enduring it all, even when he would come home drunk and start beating me again. I was so afraid of losing my children that I couldn’t even admit that we were not married.”
She also revealed that her ex-husband would monitor her movements, accusing her of infidelity and making her feel suffocated. The constant abuse and manipulation eventually pushed her to leave the relationship.
Orisaguna claimed that her ex-husband began to spread rumors about her and those who had supported her, leading to a downward spiral in her life. She finally found the courage to speak out, hoping to inspire others who may be going through similar struggles.
