UNIZIK VC Odoh Speaks Out Against Tinubu’s Alleged Removal Pressure

‘I Was Not Appointed Through A Press Release’ – Embattled UNIZIK VC, Odoh Rejects Tinubu’s Removal

Nnamdi Azikiwe University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bernard Ifeanyi Odoh, Disputes His Sack by President Bola Tinubu

Naijawebinfo recalls that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had given approval to the Ministry of Education to dissolve the university’s Governing Council and sack Odoh.

A letter signed by Boriowo Folasade, the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, accused the university of violating regulations and disregarding federal directives. The letter claimed that the Governing Council had appointed an unqualified Vice-Chancellor, resulting in unrest and a breakdown of order at the institution.

In an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show, the embattled Vice Chancellor disputed his sack, stating that he had not received any written communication about his removal.

Odoh revealed that he only became aware of his supposed sack through media reports, contrary to the usual appointment procedure. He expressed his intention to head to his office after the interview, as he had not committed any wrongdoing.

He emphasized that the Governing Council had not been invited to explain the situation at the university, and that there was no written communication from the National Universities Commission (NUC) or the Ministry requesting an explanation. He also pointed out that there was no panel of inquiry or investigation into the matter.

“I haven’t been communicated. There has been no information anywhere. There has been no panel of enquiry. No panel of investigation,” Odoh said.

“All I heard yesterday was to see the information on the media space saying that I have been removed. I was not appointed through a press release. I was appointed by a constituted authority and I have the letter to prove it. So, I don’t understand. After this interview, I’m heading to the office. I haven’t committed any crime. I was appointed by a procedure, and the procedure is straightforward,” he added.
