Enugu Set to Shine as Host of the 23rd National Sports Festival in 2026
The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced that Enugu State will be the anchor for the 23rd edition of the National Sports Festival, slated for 2026. This decision was reached after a rigorous evaluation process and top-level deliberation by the NSC’s management team.
According to information, the multi-sport event will be the ultimate showcase of athletic prowess, unity, and national pride, as thousands of athletes from 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory converge to compete and celebrate sportsmanship and excellence.
The upcoming event will be preceded by the 22nd edition of the festival in Ogun State, which is set to take place in January 2025. The organizers are committed to delivering an exceptional experience for all participants and spectators.
Explaining the reasons behind the selection of Enugu as the host state, NSC Director-General Bukola Olopade emphasized the importance of aligning with international best practices and allowing ample time for the state to prepare. He expressed confidence that the upcoming event will maintain the festival’s legacy of excellence, inclusivity, and celebration of Nigeria’s outstanding sports talents.
This marks a significant milestone for Enugu State, as it will be the first time the state hosts the festival since its inception in 1973.
