Federal University Gusau Disowns Odoh’s Professorship Documents
Naijawebinfo reports that the management of the Federal University, Gusau (FUGUS) has distanced itself from the professorship letters being paraded by former Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Bernard Odoh, who was sacked just weeks after his appointment.
Odoh had claimed to have been appointed as a visiting professor at FUGUS in 2014 and promoted to full professor of applied geophysics in 2015. However, the university’s Registrar, Yakubu Anivbassa, has described Odoh’s documents as fraudulently obtained.
In a statement, the university emphasized that the letters Odoh paraded, which he claims were issued by the institution, are fake. They were allegedly produced by a combination of Odoh’s efforts and those of a former Vice Chancellor and Registrar, who had long since left the university.
The statement cited the Evidence Act 2011, which outlines the requirements for certifying official documents. According to these requirements, a certified true copy must be dated and signed by the officer issuing it, with their name and title, and the document must be sealed.
The registrar of FUGUS added that the former Registrar who certified Odoh’s documents, Ibrahim Bawa Kaura, had no right to do so, having left the university’s employ in 2018 and lacking the necessary authority. The university’s management also expressed concern over the forged documents and the impersonation of the current Registrar, who was not involved in their creation.
