APC Chieftain Concedes: Destabilizing PDP is a Legitimate Political Strategy
A recent interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme has stirred controversy, as Cletus Obun, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), revealed that destabilizing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a key strategy ahead of the 2027 election.
This admission follows claims by Segun Sowunmi, a PDP chieftain, that the ongoing crisis within the party can be attributed to President Bola Tinubu’s surprise appointment of Nyesom Wike as minister of the Federal Capital Territory, without consulting the party’s leadership.
In response to Sowunmi’s criticism, Obun, a former chairman of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) in Cross River State, emphasized that disrupting the opposition party is an acceptable political tactic, provided it does not resort to violence.
According to Obun, it is the responsibility of both parties to strive to destabilize each other, as long as such efforts do not escalate into violent confrontations. This view is reflected in his statement: “If the PDP says so, it’s the worst political confession to be ever made. If you’re saying that we’re able to infiltrate PDP and destabilize them, it’s part of our duty to so… It’s a good political weapon to use.”
