EFCC Arraigns REA Director Over Alleged ₦223.4 Million Fraud

Abuja High Court Sees Director of Human Resources Management at REA Charged with Five Counts of Fraud

Naijawebinfo has learned that Suleiman Garba Bulkwang, Director of Human Resources Management at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), has been arraigned before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on five counts of fraud and money laundering.

The charges against Bulkwang, which total ₦223,412,909, stem from alleged criminal diversion of funds and money laundering during his tenure at REA. Specifically, the EFCC alleges that in July 2023, Bulkwang misappropriated ₦45 million from funds deposited into the accounts of four companies by consultants working for REA.

Bulkwang has entered a plea of “not guilty” to all charges against him.

The charges include, among others, the alleged transfer of ₦138 million from consultants’ accounts to an unknown location, and the conversion of ₦45 million into his personal use.

Following his arraignment, Ekele Iheanacho, SAN, representing the EFCC, requested that the court set a trial date and remand the defendant in a correctional facility. The court, however, adjourned the case to February 3, 2024, to allow for Bulkwang’s bail application and ordered him to be remanded at Kuje Correctional Center pending trial.
