National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Tajudeen Baruwa, recently made some startling revelations about the ongoing crisis within the union.
According to Naijawebinfo, during an interview with Punch, Baruwa refuted claims that the Federal Government is backing his opponent, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, in his bid to stay in office despite the court judgement that nullified his presidency.
Baruwa stated, “I’m not aware of any direct involvement of the government in the crisis. I’ve only heard that a top official allegedly told MC Oluomo that he should not vacate the office and nothing will happen. However, this is just a rumor, and I’ve not received any official communication from the government or the official himself.”
When asked about the delay in his reinstatement as president following the appeal court ruling, Baruwa explained that the union is following due process to ensure that he resumes his position.
He noted that the law requires a formal process, and the union cannot simply install a new president without due process. “We are following the law, and we won’t compromise the integrity of our organization. MC Oluomo, like me, is not above the law, and we must ensure that we comply with the legal requirements.”
He stated, “I’m a son of Bola Tinubu, just like millions of Nigerians who are members of the All Progressives Congress. MC Oluomo is not the only son or loyalist of President Bola Tinubu. We are all his children, and this shouldn’t be a factor that hinders my reinstatement as president of the NURTW.”
