A devastating fire broke out at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Saturday, leaving a trail of destruction and financial loss in its wake.
Preliminary reports indicate that the inferno, which occurred in the early morning hours, specifically targeted the hospital’s Emergency and Accident Unit. Eyewitnesses believe the fire may have been triggered by an electrical malfunction, which started in a pediatric consultant’s office around 5 a.m.
The consequences of the blaze are significant, with the loss of vital equipment, medical resources, and electronic devices. The fire also damaged the roofs and ceilings of the affected unit, exacerbating the overall damage.
In a proactive effort to ensure patient safety, 16 individuals were quickly evacuated from the ward.
The hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Omotayo Ogunleye, confirmed the incident and assured the public that normal operations have been restored. “It’s a minor incident, and we’re back to normal operations in the hospital,” Ogunleye said.
