A Rags-to-Riches Story Redux: Jumoke Onibredi’s Resurgence as a Broadcaster

In 2016, Olajumoke Orisaguna, a Lagos-based bread vendor, rose to fame as Jumoke ‘Onibredi’ after being discovered by renowned photographer Ty Bello. Since then, she has been making a comeback in the spotlight.

Her story of rising from humble beginnings to success was a media sensation, with her appearing on magazine covers and inspiring many Nigerians. However, fortunes took a turn for the worse when she fell prey to her former manager’s alleged fraud, leading to a decline in her fame, financial stability, and public relevance.

Jumoke revealed that she was swindled by her former manager, who misappropriated her earnings from endorsement deals and business ventures. The manager manipulated her, taking her to South Africa for a documentary, but leaving her to foot the bill. When they returned to Nigeria, the manager gave her a paltry N50,000, leaving Jumoke with nothing.

The turning point came when Azuka Ogujiuba, CEO of Media Room Hub, and Ty Bello, stepped in to help Jumoke. Ogujiuba provided financial assistance, including rent and food, while Bello offered financial support. These gestures of kindness were a lifeline for Jumoke, who was on the brink of collapse.

Jumoke expressed her gratitude to Azuka Ogujiuba, Ty Bello, and Mrs. Adedoja Allen, acknowledging their significant help during her darkest hours. In appreciation, Jumoke credits them for being her saviors, stating that she will not make the same mistakes in the future by leaving kind strangers behind.

Ogujiuba’s efforts to help Jumoke did not stop there. He reached out to Adedoja Allen, CEO of City FM and founder of the Cardinal Foundation, to offer Jumoke a chance to rebuild her life, this time in broadcasting. Ogujiuba also orchestrated the involvement of the police to investigate the fraud, but unfortunately, the case did not yield satisfying results, as her former manager was released and failed to respond to further summons.

Jumoke’s story is a testament to resilience and the power of human connection. Her redemption story is one of hope, highlighting the importance of kindness, compassion, and second chances.
