Police EOD Unit Recoveries Unexploded Military Ordnances in Maiduguri, Borno State
The Nigeria Police Force’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit made a groundbreaking discovery in Maiduguri, Borno State, uncovering multiple unexploded military ordnances, following a tip-off from vigilant residents.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the unit, in collaboration with local authorities, discovered the explosive ordnances, including six unexploded projectiles and one mortar bomb, near an uncompleted building in the Dala Kacchallah area.
In response to this development, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious finds to the authorities immediately to prevent any harm or damage.
The police team’s swift response, backed by their Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit, ensured the safe evacuation of the ordnances without injury, loss of life, or damage to property, restoring normalcy to the area.
In a similar incident, the EOD-CBRN team also responded to a report of an abandoned military hand grenade found in the Gwange Riverbank, safely recovering the explosive and containing the threat.
IGP Kayode Egbetokun commended the EOD-CBRN team for their professionalism and prompt response, assuring Nigerians of the Force’s commitment to ensuring public safety and security. He acknowledged the team’s consistent successes in Maiduguri and Borno State, having safely recovered numerous Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the past.
