Part of a presidential family’s extraordinary legal dilemma

Junior Pope: Why We Cannot Sue Adanma Luke – AGN

Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Speaks on Reasons Behind Not Suing Adanma Luke over Junior Pope’s Death

In an exclusive interview on Arise TV, Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), shed light on the circumstances surrounding the suspension of Adanma Luke and the AGN’s decision not to sue her over the death of Junior Pope and four crew members in a tragic boat accident on April 10, 2024, in Asaba, Delta State.

The accident occurred while the group was on their way to a movie set produced by Adanma Luke, resulting in a devastating loss for the film industry.

Rollas explained that following Junior Pope’s death, the AGN suspended Adanma Luke, but legal counsel revealed that only Junior Pope’s direct family members have the authority to pursue legal action.

According to Rollas, the legal team advised that the AGN did not have the necessary jurisdiction to bring a lawsuit against Adanma Luke, citing the terms of Junior Pope’s contract with the producer. Instead, either the direct family or the wife should initiate legal proceedings.

Rollas emphasized that the AGN is working to revamp its structure and practices, drawing from international best practices. The organization aims to introduce a licensing system for actors, as Junior Pope, at the time of his death, was not a registered member of the guild and had not paid his dues in over a year.
