PDP Dismissing Tinubu’s Son for Governor in Lagos

‘Lagos Will Not Serve Him’ – PDP Rejects Tinubu’s Son Alleged Governorship Ambition

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed its strong opposition to any attempt to position Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, as the next governor of Lagos State. This decision comes on the heels of recent endorsements from various groups for Seyi to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the 2027 elections.

Several groups, including the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders, have offered their support for Seyi, suggesting that he could be an attractive candidate for governor in other states, such as Osun or Imo, where his family has historical ties.

A socio-political organization, Friends of Seyi Tinubu, has also endorsed him, praising his leadership abilities, intelligence, and strategic acumen.

However, the endorsements have met with widespread backlash. Hakeem Amode, the spokesperson for the Lagos PDP, descried the idea as unacceptable and expressed doubts that Lagosians would support Seyi for the governorship position.

Amode told Punch, “Lagos will not serve him. Governorship is not a gift. We will meet fierce resistance if the Tinubu camp plans to replicate what they did in Ondo and Edo. Many Lagosians did not support Tinubu in the last presidential election, indicating that they would not endorse his son for the governorship.”

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed the current discussions as premature, calling for focus on supporting the current government and the president to drive development. Seye Oladejo, the APC spokesperson, urged people to rally behind the governor and president to propel growth.

A notable APC leader, Joe Igbokwe, also weighed in on the issue on his Facebook page, warning against any attempts to install Seyi as the next governor of Lagos. He wrote, “Who are these faceless individuals promoting Seyi Tinubu for Lagos Governor? This is a pointless distraction. The real target is to undermine President Bola Tinubu. Governing Lagos is not a job for anyone who lacks the necessary experience and expertise.”
