The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is gearing up to seize control from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
In its quest to achieve this goal, the party has identified unity as the first step, urging all party members and organs to come together to strengthen the party’s foundation.
Following a recent meeting of PDP Governors in Jos, the party released a statement calling for unity among its members and reaffirming its commitment to upholding democratic governance.
The statement, read by Bala Mohammed, the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, expressed sympathy for Imo Eno, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, who lost his wife and was forced to postpone the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
The forum urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to coordinate consultations with party stakeholders to ensure the meeting is held by February 2025, when all outstanding leadership and governance issues have been addressed.
In the 7-point communique, the governors emphasized the importance of addressing public concerns about the party’s ability to provide a trusted platform for democratic governance.
They also expressed their resolve to ensure the party’s unity and cohesion, citing the disappointment and mistrust expressed by Nigerians, founding fathers, and party members.
The governors also addressed the recent passage of Umo Eno’s wife, expressing their condolences and offering words of comfort to the bereaved family.
In addition, they empathized with Nigerians struggling with economic difficulties and called for a review of federal government policies to improve citizens’ welfare.
The governors further expressed their concerns about the integrity of recent elections, citing manipulation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and urged judicial and legislative action to protect democracy.
