₦50 Million Spent On Purchasing Presidential Nomination Form Was A Waste – Dele Momodu

PDP Chieftain Regrets Spending ₦50 Million on Presidential Nomination Form

A prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dele Momodu, has expressed deep regret over his decision to spend ₦50 million on the party’s presidential nomination form.

In a recent interview on the Key to Keys podcast show, Momodu described the PDP primary as heavily influenced by money politics.

He revealed that one of the aspirants gave $30,000 to each of the 774 delegates during the 2022 PDP presidential primary, making it nearly impossible for other candidates to compete.

Momodu also stated that he would not contest for any party’s presidential ticket unless he is adopted as a consensus candidate.

“Experience is the best teacher, and I’ve come to realize that there are powerful forces controlling Nigeria,” he said.

“Unless a major political party decides to adopt me as a consensus candidate, I won’t consider running for office. I spent ₦50 million on a nomination form, which could have bought me a property. It was a waste, as I didn’t even receive a single vote.”

Momodu lamented that it’s difficult to compete with politicians who have amassed wealth through corrupt means, particularly those in the oil-rich regions.

“It’s not easy to compete with them, as they have an endless supply of cash. They insult Nigerians with impunity because of their wealth. There’s no country where people have as much raw cash as they do in Nigeria,” he said.

“Most of their money is not even in banks, making it impossible to trace. If someone asks them for $500 million to become president, they’ll find a way to get it. As for us, where do we even start?” Momodu asked, shrugging off the idea of competing in such a system.
