A Dramatic Moment: How a Heroic Rescue Team Saved a Life in Lagos

In a shocking incident, a 40-foot container came crashing down onto a Toyota Camry at Mile 2, en route to the Apapa Ports, Lagos, on Monday morning.

The event, which unfolded around 8 a.m., brought traffic to a standstill in the area, with many eyewitnesses describing the harrowing scene as “heart-stopping”.

Extremely quick thinking by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and emergency responders ensured that the situation didn’t turn tragic.

The driver of the Toyota Camry, who had a miraculous escape, was rushed to hospital for medical treatment, while officers from the Kirikiri Police Division provided a secure environment for the rescue operations to unfold.

Once the rescue was complete, the mangled Toyota Camry was eventually lifted from beneath the container, although it took some time to clear the fallen container, with safety experts working tirelessly to ensure a safe clearance process.

LASTMA personnel remained at the scene, expertly directing traffic and restoring order to the busy area, as emergency services worked to free the trapped vehicle.

In response to the incident, General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, highlighted the significance of proper container security to prevent such incidents in the future.

“At LASTMA, we remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring the safety and efficiency of Lagos roads, working in tandem with key stakeholders to uphold traffic regulations and protect the public,” Bakare-Oki emphasized.
