Nottingham Forest Hopes to Cement Ola Aina’s Future Amid Contract Talks
In a move that could provide a boost to their defence, Nottingham Forest is edging closer to securing the services of Nigerian international defender Ola Aina with a new contract. According to reports, the 28-year-old is close to agreeing a new deal, which will likely see his wages significantly increased.
Aina joined Forest on a free transfer last summer and has since established himself as a key player for the Tricky Trees. The defender has been instrumental in helping the team this season, making 34 league appearances and chipping in with two crucial goals.
The club had already exercised their option to extend Aina’s contract by one year, showcasing their confidence in his ability to make a meaningful impact. Given his impressive displays, it’s no surprise that Forest is keen to retain his services.
Meanwhile, Southampton manager Russell Martin sang the praises of Nigerian forward Paul Onuachu, who had a standout performance against Liverpool, despite ultimately being forced off the pitch with an injury.
Onuachu started his first game of the season and brought a sense of physicality and creativity to the front line. While his impact was marked by a nasty injury, Martin remains hopeful that it’s not serious, crediting Onuachu’s diligent training with deserving of his starting role.
Martin reflected on Onuachu’s display, stating, “He’s been training fantastically well, and it was only right that he got his opportunity. We’ll have to assess the extent of the injury, but I think he did enough to merit his selection in the next match.” Onuachu’s return from injury couldn’t have come at a better time for the Saints, as his presence offers a promising boost to the team’s attacking options.
Throughout the season, Onuachu has made six appearances in the league, showcasing his growing influence on the team. This display against Liverpool, albeit cut short by injury, has confirmed his ability to make a difference for Southampton.
