Latest Updates on Petrol Scarcity, Fuel Price Hike, and Government-Citizen Reactions

In a move aimed at alleviating the burden of rising fuel prices, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a reduction in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to ₦970 per litre for oil marketers.

The refinery’s Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, explained that this price cut is a token of appreciation to Nigerians for their unwavering support in bringing the refinery’s vision to life.

This new price represents a ₦20 decrease from the refinery’s earlier ex-depot price of ₦990 per litre, introduced earlier this month.

The refinery emphasized its commitment to maintaining the highest standards in its petroleum products, prioritizing environmental sustainability and domestic enterprise for the collective good of the nation.

In a separate development, the Nigerian Navy has arrested a syndicate engaged in the smuggling of petroleum products and other illicit goods to Cameroon and other nations in the Gulf of Guinea region from Akwa Ibom State.

Captain Uche Aneke, the Commanding Officer of the Base, confirmed the arrests, noting that the suspects were apprehended by the Forward Operating Base (FOB) of the Nigerian Navy in the coastal waters of Ibaka within the Mbo local government area of the state.

Among those arrested were three individuals suspected of oil theft, who were found in possession of 2,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit and 1,000 cartons of beer intended for delivery to the neighboring Republic of Cameroon.

The Navy has handed over the confiscated items and other valuable goods worth millions of naira to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) representatives in Akwa Ibom Command.

The arrests were made during a routine night patrol along the Mbo River, which included a stop-and-search operation on Wednesday at approximately 7 pm.
