Former APC Chieftain Laments Tinubu’s Reward System, Slams Appointment of Bwala
A former national chairmanship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mohammed Saidu Etsu, has expressed disappointment with President Bola Tinubu’s reward system, particularly in regards to those who worked for his victory in the last election.
In an interview on Arise TV’s Morning Show, Etsu criticized Tinubu’s decision to appoint Daniel Bwala, a former campaign aide to ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as his Special Adviser on Policy Communication.
Etsu argued that Tinubu should not have appointed individuals like Bwala, who have a history of criticizing the president, into his government. He recalled how Bwala publicly denigrated Tinubu during the 2023 election, only to later seek an appointment in his administration.
Etsu warned Tinubu to reassess his approach, stating that his actions are alienating core party members. He believes that appointing individuals who have insulted or denigrated the office of the president as spokespersons is unacceptable.
“It’s not a bad idea to have a presidential spokesperson, but to have someone who has publicly insulted the president as a spokesperson is an anomaly,” Etsu said.
Etsu also expressed disappointment with Bwala’s appointment, stating that it’s difficult to understand why someone who has spoken out against the party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket would be rewarded with a position in the government. He believes that Tinubu’s actions are undermining party loyalty and internal mechanisms.
Etsu, who ran for national chairman of the APC, emphasized the importance of a fair reward system and internal party mechanisms. He urged Tinubu to reconsider his approach, as it’s causing him to lose support from core party members.
“When you bring your enemies closer, it’s not someone who has called you names and insulted you that should be appointed to a position of trust,” Etsu said. “It’s sad for Bwala to struggle to take this appointment, especially given his past behavior.”
