Nigerian Military Destroys IPOB and ESN Strongholds in Imo State Operation
The Nigerian Army has announced a successful military operation in Imo State, which targeted individuals linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its security arm, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). According to a statement released on Facebook, a joint operation, known as Operation Udo Ka, was carried out along the Ekeututu-Ihiteunansa Road in the Orsu Local Government Area.
During the operation, the military allegedly encountered suspected members of IPOB and ESN and engaged them in a violent confrontation. According to official reports, numerous individuals suspected of being linked to these groups were neutralized.
The operation reportedly yielded seized items, including pump-action guns, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), IED-making materials, and charms. In response, the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General OO Oluyede, praised the troops for their bravery and urged them to continue their efforts in eliminating criminal elements from the region.
The statement reassured peaceful residents of the South East region to carry on with their daily activities without fear.
Meanwhile, the Chief Counsel to IPOB, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has appealed to the people of the South East region to put aside their differences and strive for peace.
In recent days, security forces had arrested a self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile, Simon Ekpa. In response, Ejiofor called attention to the issue of security in the region and spoke out against a perceived ‘December declaration’ of Biafra’s independence, which he viewed as invalid.
Ejiofor emphasized that ‘lies, deceit, and criminality’ have expiration dates, and that ‘game is over’ for those persisting in pursuing baseless claims. He urged residents to restore peace in their communities and cautioned against attempts to achieve liberation through violent means.
As Ejiofor noted, true liberation struggles must reject violence and instead focus on peaceful approaches. He reminded his listeners that Ndi Igbo are marginalized in Nigeria but that freedom cannot be gained through violent or fraudulent means.
