Osagie Condemns Edo State Government’s Decision to Review E-Governance Platform

Naijawebinfo reports that the Edo State Government has ordered an immediate review of its e-governance platform due to concerns over data breach and lack of administrative control.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Musa Ikhilor, made this revelation in a statement on Tuesday, citing the discovery of unknown non-state actors operating the platform from the backend, rendering the state’s public service without administrative control.

However, the former media adviser to ex-governor Godwin Obaseke, Crusoe Osagie, has condemned the review, describing it as “baseless” and an attempt to undermine the digital reforms initiated by the previous administration.

An online report had earlier circulated that Governor Monday Okpebholo had shut down the platform and reverted civil service operations to paper-based communication. However, Ikhilor clarified that the e-governance system remains functional during the review.

Osagie argued that the review is an attempt to undermine the digital reforms initiated by the previous government, and that the new government’s approach, including reverting to paper-based processes, is “shameful, regressive, and an insult to Edo workers.” He also expressed disappointment that the government lacks the knowledge and expertise required for effective governance in the 21st century.

Osagie stated that the e-governance platform is operated by the Edo ICT Agency under the Edo State Ministry of Digital Economy, with consultant support, to ensure efficient systems for government processes and operations. He believes that the review is an irrational decision that exposes the government’s cluelessness and lack of administrative control.
