Police Thwart Boko Haram Attack, Defuse Explosive Device in Malari Village

On Wednesday, the Borno State Police Command foiled a daring Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Malari village, Konduga Local Government Area, at the crack of dawn.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, the attack occurred around 1 a.m. when a team of police officers, stationed at the FOB, responded to the threat and engaged the insurgents in a fierce gun battle.

In the ensuing confrontation, the terrorists suffered significant losses, including injuries from bullet wounds, and were forced to retreat into the surrounding bush.

Following the gun battle, the police discovered a suspicious Toyota Hilux abandoned by local vigilantes, which revealed a hidden explosive device.

A thorough search of the area was conducted by experts from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Base 13 in Maiduguri, who rendered the explosive device safe for removal.

Police Officer Daso commended the swift response and professionalism of the officers involved, praising the EOD-CBRN experts for their tireless efforts in keeping the community safe.

He assured the public that the police command remains committed to protecting the rights of returnees to their ancestral homes, reassuring the community to remain vigilant, report any suspicious objects or activities to the police, and to stay calm in the face of these challenges.
