PDP Blasts FG over Claim of Saving $20 Billion from Fuel Subsidy Removal and Naira Floating
In a scathing rebuke, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed the recent declaration by the Federal Government that it has saved $20 billion from its controversial fuel subsidy removal and naira floating policies as a blatant lie. The Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, made the claim on Monday, stating that Nigeria had saved the staggering sum from President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms and market-based pricing of the foreign exchange rate.
According to PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, the claim is “too flimsy” and lacks credibility, and is simply a desperate attempt to deceive the public. In an interview with Punch, Abdullahi described the government’s declaration as a “lie from the pit of hell” and “pedestrian,” adding that it is a tactic frequently employed by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I am not impressed with this narrative. It’s the same tired, old trickster’s bag of lies we’ve seen from the APC before. The data doesn’t add up, especially when considering the government’s current predicament,” Abdullahi explained. “They’re struggling to manage their finances, and now they’re trying to tell us they’ve saved this enormous amount? It’s not possible.”
He further questioned the government’s motives, pointing out that if they had indeed saved $20 billion, they would not be in dire need of loan approvals. “Why are they still seeking loans to fund their projects? They should be using the saved funds to fund their projects. Something’s amiss here.”
The PDP spokesperson warned that Nigerians are no longer falling for the government’s false promises and are growing increasingly frustrated with their administration. “The people have had enough and are waiting for divine intervention to remove this government. They’re disconnected from reality and have taken Nigeria for a ride for far too long.”
Abdullahi’s scathing critique underscores the deep distrust and skepticism among Nigerians towards the government’s economic claims, and serves as a powerful rebuke of the FG’s legitimacy in the eyes of the public.
