Nigerian Police Force Transfers Singer Speed Darlington to Abuja
According to reports from Naijawebinfo, Speed Darlington, a popular Nigerian singer, has been re-arrested by the police in Owerri, Imo State, and moved to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
A high-ranking source revealed to SaharaReporters that Darlington was taken from Owerri to the Police Force Intelligence Department (FID) on Wednesday.
The Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) in charge of FID, Dasuki Galadanchi, has taken personal custody of Darlington’s case files from the police unit that initially arrested him.
As per the source, “Speed Darlington is being transferred to Abuja, and DIG Galadanchi is leading the prosecution. He feels that Darlington’s previous punishment was too lenient, which is why they granted him bail last time.”
Another insider added, “The DIG personally took over Darlington’s case files from the police department that arrested him and initially detained him in Abuja.”
In a statement, Stan Alieke, Speed Darlington’s counsel, confirmed that the singer was re-arrested in Owerri over allegations of jumping bail.
Naijawebinfo recalls that Darlington was initially arrested in October after a petition was filed against him by his colleague, Burna Boy.
Alieke explained that Darlington was granted administrative bail in October after being illegally detained for five days in connection with the Burna Boy incident. He was given a date to report back, but a medical emergency that required him to travel abroad for treatment prevented him from doing so.
Alieke stressed that Darlington had no intention of jumping bail, having arranged to return to Abuja after his performance in Owerri.
