Troops Neutralize ISWAP Terrorists, Seize Weapons Cache in Borno State Clearance Operations
In a recent effort to curb terrorism in the region, troops from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) Sector 3 in Mongunu, Borno State, successfully carried out a clearance operation in collaboration with a hybrid force and air support.
According to information released by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Chief Military Information Officer at HQ MNJTF in N’djamena, Chad, the operation centered around intercepting and neutralizing a group of injured Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists attempting to flee and seizing a significant cache of weapons.
The troops, supported by air components, effectively targeted and intercepted several armed and injured terrorists on motorbikes who were attempting to regroup in Guzamala. The captured weapons included seven AK-47 rifles, one RPG bomb and tube, two anti-aircraft guns, and 152 rounds of Shilka ammunition.
In the follow-up ground operation, troops eliminated 15 ISWAP terrorists and took one alive, as well as destroyed three additional VBIEDs, increasing the total number of VBIEDs destroyed to seven.
The operation marked a crucial advancement in the ongoing efforts to reestablish peace and security in the area and diminish the strength of terrorist factions. The MNJTF remains committed to eliminating terrorist threats and safeguarding the local community.
