APC Challenges Obaseki to Walk Freely on Benin Streets
A prominent party chieftain and member of the Edo State Assets Verification Committee, Prince Kassim Afegbua, threw down the gauntlet by challenging former Governor Godwin Obaseki to roam the streets of Benin City without fear of resistance or hostility.
Afegbua made the bold proposal at a press briefing following the inauguration of the committee by Governor Monday Okpebholo at Government House in Benin City. The promise came in response to PDP’s criticism of APC’s administration.
Afegbua explained that the administration’s goal is to refute allegations made by the PDP. He stated: “We’re here today to address some misconceptions circulating in the media.”
He argued that the PDP claims of APC shutting down E-governance platforms, which they called “E-corruption,” were patently false. Afegbua claimed that despite their efforts to access valuable information from the previous government, they were unable to do so.
Afegbua also dismissed PDP’s allegations of APC party members invading their secretariat, saying it was just a desperate attempt to detract from the administration’s progress. He emphasized the administration’s focus on redeeming Edo State, which he claimed was ruined by the previous government.
“We won’t be derailed by such empty claims,” Afegbua said. “Obaseki should take this challenge and walk the streets of Benin. If he receives a warm reception, we’ll reward him with ₦50 million.”
He further alleged that the former governor has hired unknown persons to spread negative messages about APC and its administration, and called on them to invite Obaseki for a street walk instead of spreading false information.
Afegbua concluded that APC’s projects and strides have earned the trust of Edo people, contradicting PDP’s narrative that the administration is inefficient.
