Nigeria Falls to 44th in FIFA Rankings After Recent Slump

Nigeria Drops To 44th Place In Latest FIFA Ranking

Nigeria’s FIFA Ranking Takes a Hit

A disappointing string of performances has led to a significant decline in Nigeria’s FIFA ranking, with the team plummeting eight positions to 44th globally.

The Super Eagles now sit on 1482.23 points, a drop from their previous total of 1503.

Domestically, Nigeria finds itself in fifth place among African nations, behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria.

The downward trend is attributed to Nigeria’s unimpressive results during the recent FIFA international window, where they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Rwanda and only managed a 1-1 draw against Benin in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers.

On the global stage, Argentina remains the top-ranked team, followed by France and Spain. England and Brazil hold the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.

The rankings reflect a busy international football calendar, which includes qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, matches for AFCON 2025, and fixtures in the Nations League.

In contrast, Niger has achieved the most impressive rise in the rankings, climbing nine places to 122nd globally with an increase of 31.23 points.

The next update of the FIFA rankings is scheduled for December 12, 2024.
