Call for Constructive Journalism in Rivers State

Chijioke Ihunwo, the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, has urged the media to adopt a more constructive approach in their reporting. He emphasized the need for objectivity and accuracy in their stories, especially in their coverage of the state’s activities.

During a meeting with members of the Correspondent Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Ihunwo expressed his appreciation for the governor’s work and requested the media’s support in portraying him in a positive light. He described Governor Siminalayi Fubara as a “quiet and humble person” who has the best interests of the state at heart.

Ihunwo expressed concern over the negative reports and speculations that have been circulating about the state, particularly on social media. He believes that the media should provide constructive criticism and avoid spreading false information that can cause harm and promote unrest.

As a strong advocate for the governor and the state, Ihunwo stated that Rivers State is too large to be controlled by one individual. He reaffirmed his commitment to defend the governor and the state against any perceived threats or intimidation.

In his words, “We are here to defend our people and our local government. We will not allow others to intimidate us or disrupt our progress. The governor is a silent achiever who means well for Rivers State, and we will stand with him for the next eight years.”
