Nigerian singer Skales credits himself with helping to propel the success of his colleague, Burna Boy
According to a recent interview with Naija FM, Skales believes that he played a role in Burna Boy’s career advancement, including helping him achieve his first hit song. The temperamental singer claims that before their collaboration on the song “Temper Remix” in 2017, Burna Boy was struggling to make a name for himself.
Skales revealed that he has also drawn inspiration from Burna Boy throughout his career, stating that the concept of collaboration is to support and promote one another. “I inspired Burna Boy,” he claimed. “He’ll agree with me. We probably admire each other and decide to work together.”
The singer believes that their collaboration on “Temper Remix” was the catalyst for Burna Boy’s subsequent success. “It was after our collaboration that he started excelling,” Skales said. “I’m not trying to take credit for his success, but he has inspired me over the years, and I believe I inspired him at a point too.”
Meanwhile, Burna Boy has shared a different perspective on his financial status. In an Instagram post, he revealed that he is now wealthier than many politicians and oil tycoons he once looked up to. He used this opportunity to advise his followers not to underestimate those who are younger than them.
In his post, Burna Boy reflected on how music was not considered a lucrative career path when he was growing up. “Imagine growing up and only oil men and politicians were the ones really getting the real money, followed by the ‘G boys’,” he wrote. “Music wasn’t even in the conversation when money was the topic. Now an ugly black musician from Port Harcourt has more money than 90% of the people he looked up to as money makers.”
