Osun APC Challenges Obasanjo’s Endorsement of Governor Adeleke

In a scathing press conference in Osogbo on Thursday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration, dismissing former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s praise for the governor’s midterm performance.

The APC’s Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Olabisi, called out Adeleke’s government for engaging in unauthorized spending, citing a laundry list of alleged failures in key areas such as education, agriculture, health, and fiscal management.

Olabisi questioned the sincerity of Obasanjo’s endorsement, pointing out that the former president has a history of making misleading statements. He referenced Obasanjo’s previous skepticism about the viability of the Port Harcourt refinery, which is now operational. “Whatever he says about Adeleke’s performance, he likely means the opposite,” Olabisi remarked.

The APC spokesman accused Adeleke’s administration of neglecting its responsibilities, particularly in the education sector. He noted that over 1,500 teachers employed by the previous government were dismissed without being replaced, leading to a severe shortage of teachers in Osun State schools.

In Atakumosa East, for example, there is only one physics teacher to serve an entire area, Olabisi pointed out. The APC also highlighted the astronomical fees being charged at the newly established University of Ilesa, with law students paying a staggering N1.5 million per session and nursing students paying N1.2 million per session. In comparison, students at Osun State University are charged a fraction of that amount.

The APC also criticized the Adeleke administration for its lack of progress in agriculture, food security, and healthcare. Instead of investing in rehabilitating healthcare facilities, the government has been devoting resources to cosmetic projects such as painting and decorating facilities previously renovated by the previous government.
