PDP Chieftain Reveals Atiku’s Silence on 2027 Presidential Ambition

A high-ranking member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Sowunmi, shed light on the party’s internal dynamics, stating that Atiku Abubakar, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has not publicly mentioned his plans for the 2027 presidential election.

In a recent interview with News Central TV, Sowunmi shared his personal interaction with Atiku, noting that he has twice approached him about his intentions to run in 2027. However, Atiku has remained tight-lipped about his plans.

Sowunmi emphasized that the PDP is a well-structured party that adheres to a strict democratic process, where candidates must win party primaries to secure the party’s nomination for public office.

In his words, “We’re not a party that gives away our ticket; everyone, from the councillor up to the presidency, has to contest in our primary elections. We don’t do things differently; consistency is key.”

Sowunmi also expressed skepticism about speculating about the presidential election in 2027, citing the need for the party to first consolidate its internal affairs and rectify its shortcomings.

Ultimately, Sowunmi reassured that Atiku’s silence on his 2027 ambitions is not because of any hidden agenda but rather a reflection of his commitment to the party’s democratic process.
